“We will initially do an assessment to determine if you have any signs or symptoms present for TMJ.  At that point if we determine you are possibly suffering from TMD or TMJ, we will do a neuromuscular work up.  What that involves is we hook you up to our computers, we measure the health of your muscles in your head and neck area, we measure how your jaw functions.  We listen with sonography to any noises it makes, and we contract how you are functioning now.  Then we relax your muscles, using a low frequency unit that pumps out all the bad stuff and pumps in the oxygen, and it allows your muscles and your joints to function in a better position.  We measure where that better position is, so then you can see where you function normally and where you would function if things were in a better position.  And we see what the difference is there.”

“TMD or TMJ has a laundry list of symptoms.  Most people associate temporomandibular joint disorder with clicking jaw joints, noise when they function, difficult opening their mouth, or pain in the temporal region which is where your jaw joints are located.  The other signs and symptoms are facial pain, soreness when you wake up, headaches, neck strain, postural issues, anything involving your nervous or your muscular system around the head or neck area often can be TMJ signs or symptoms.  Which all relate back to the position of your jaw.”
